SADI-S
What is the sADI-S?
The Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve, commonly known as SADI-S, is designed for dramatic weight loss. It combines two powerful surgical techniques: sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass. SADI-S is not just effective in reducing body weight but also has a profound impact on medical conditions which are associated with being overweight.
One big advantage of the SADI-S is that it allows the stomach to keep its natural pylorus, the valve that regulates how food leaves the stomach. This means fewer side effects like gastric dumping, which can happen with other types of weight loss surgery. With your new, smaller stomach, you’ll feel full after eating smaller meals. Since the part of the stomach that produces ghrelin (the hormone that makes you feel hungry) is removed, you won’t get hunger spikes between meals. By bypassing part of the bowel, the SADI-S also triggers hormonal changes that improve insulin sensitivity, making it highly effective at treating diabetes. Plus, since some of the intestine is bypassed, your body won’t absorb fat over a certain threshold, which can help with weight loss.
Dr. Peery's Advice
“I’ve performed hundreds of SADI-S procedures since I first started doing them in 2016. What attracted me to this surgery were its great results and low complication rates. In 2015, I realized that using a robotic platform could help me do the SADI-S with even more safety and precision, which would give my patients the best possible outcomes. At the time, I had some concerns about the traditional duodenal switch, and I found that the SADI-S offered an alternative that still met my patients’ needs when other options like the sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass didn’t.”
