With decades of experience in bariatric and general surgery, Dr. Peery brings comprehensive expertise to North Texas. While he is widely known for his work in weight loss surgery, his practice extends well beyond bariatrics. He understands the close relationship between bariatric surgery and foregut conditions such as reflux disease and specializes in the treatment of GERD — whether patients have previously undergone bariatric surgery or not.
His extensive experience has led to mastery of minimally invasive and robotic techniques for complex abdominal surgery, including revisional bariatric procedures, complex hernia repair, abdominal wall reconstruction, and other challenging intra-abdominal conditions. This depth of expertise allows him to approach even the most complicated cases with precision and confidence.
Dr. Peery earned his medical degree from the University of South Dakota and completed his general surgery training in Des Moines, Iowa, where he served as Assistant Program Director for the Iowa Methodist General Surgery Program, mentoring residents and medical students. During his time at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, he led the bariatric surgery program, chaired the hospital’s robotic steering committee, and served as a clinical professor, helping shape the next generation of surgeons.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Peery is a consultant for Intuitive Surgical and other medical device companies, training and educating surgeons around the world. He is also co-founder of the Robotic Bariatric Collaboration (RBC), a global community of more than 3,000 surgeons committed to advancing excellence in robotic surgery.
Though born and raised in South Dakota, Texas has always felt like home. With deep family roots in the Texas Panhandle, he returned in 2023 to bring his expertise in robotic, bariatric, foregut, and complex abdominal surgery to patients in the DFW area and beyond.
At Inspire Bariatrics, Dr. Peery specializes in sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, and SADI-S procedures, as well as complex revisional surgery. He also treats reflux disease, hernias, gallbladder disease, and other general surgical conditions. His approach combines innovation, technical excellence, and genuine compassion — ensuring patients receive individualized care focused on long-term success.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Peery enjoys spending time with his five children and two grandchildren, traveling, reading, riding motorcycles, and hunting.
Dr. Peery is proud to serve patients in North Texas and looks forward to helping them take control of their health with expert, thoughtful, and forward-thinking surgical care.
