Dr. Curtis Peery is a pioneer in robotic surgery—in 2004, he performed the first robotic procedure in South Dakota and has since completed thousands of robotic surgeries. He is considered a total practice robotic surgeon, meaning he leverages the most advanced technology for every patient to ensure the safest and most effective outcomes. He is also a consultant for Intuitive Surgical and other medical device companies, training and educating surgeons worldwide.
Dr. Curtis Peery brings decades of experience in bariatric and general surgery to North Texas. With a passion for patient care and a commitment to surgical excellence, he is proud to offer advanced robotic and bariatric surgery to patients in the DFW area and beyond.
Although Dr. Peery was born and raised in South Dakota, Texas always felt like home. His parents are originally from the Texas Panhandle, and much of his extended family still resides in the state. After earning his medical degree from the University of South Dakota, he completed his general surgery training in Des Moines, IA, where he also served as Assistant Program Director for the Iowa Methodist General Surgery Program, mentoring residents and medical students.
During his years in Sioux Falls, SD, Dr. Peery built a thriving practice at Sanford USD Medical Center, where he led the bariatric surgery program and chaired the hospital’s robotic steering committee. He also served as a clinical professor, shaping the next generation of surgeons. In 2023, he returned to Texas to bring his expertise in robotic, general, and bariatric surgery to patients closer to his roots.

At Inspire Bariatrics, Dr. Peery specializes in sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, and SADI-S procedures, as well as complex revisions for patients who have had prior weight loss surgery. He also treats a wide range of general surgical conditions, including reflux, hernias, and gallbladder disease. His approach combines surgical innovation with empathy, ensuring patients receive care that truly puts their health and long-term success first.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Peery co-founded the Robotic Bariatric Collaboration (RBC), a global community of more than 3,000 surgeons dedicated to advancing education and excellence in robotic surgery.
When he isn’t practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with his five children and two grandchildren, traveling, reading, riding motorcycles, and hunting.

Jessica is a devoted mom and wife, football mom, and Cowboys fan. She’s handy in the kitchen and planning parties (compliments of being a mom). You can find her at a concert, snuggling her dogs, exploring new places with the family, or as a part of your care team.
