Qualifications for Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery

Surgery
Who Qualifies?

We use Body Mass Index (BMI) to help assess if bariatric surgery is the right option for you. If you have a BMI of 27 or greater or need to lose at least 50 pounds, you qualify for bariatric surgery. We believe everyone deserves the chance to achieve a healthy weight and live a fulfilling life, and weight loss surgery can offer that opportunity.

BMI of 27 or Greater
You’re eligible for weight loss surgery.

BMI of 35-39.9
If you have one or more obesity-related conditions(comorbidities), you’re a great candidate.

BMI of 40 or Greater
At 40 or greater you qualify for surgery on this basis alone.

Beyond Qualifying

While it’s true that weight loss surgery can improve and allow for a better quality of life, it’s important for a professional like the surgeons at Inspire Bariatrics to assess whether or not you’d truly benefit from undergoing any weight loss surgical procedure.

Most forms of weight loss surgery require a minimum BMI (Body Mass Index) number. BMI allows healthcare professionals and patients to assess individual health issues associated with your specific weight classification (such as obesity or morbid obesity).
