Meet Dr. Curtis Peery – Bariatric & General Surgeon

Curtis Peery, MD, FACS, FASMBS

Dr. Curtis Peery brings decades of experience in bariatric and general surgery to North Texas, where he has joined Dr. Keli McCalman at Inspire Bariatrics. With a passion for patient care and a commitment to surgical excellence, he is excited to offer advanced robotic and bariatric surgery to patients in the DFW area and beyond.

Although Dr. Peery was born and raised in South Dakota, Texas always felt like home. His parents are originally from the Texas Panhandle, and much of his extended family remains in the state. After completing medical school at the University of South Dakota, he pursued general surgery training in Des Moines, IA, where he also played a key role in training residents and medical students as the Assistant Program Director for the Iowa Methodist General Surgery Program.

During his years in Sioux Falls, SD, Dr. Peery built a thriving practice at Sanford USD Medical Center, where he led the bariatric surgery program and headed the hospital’s robotic steering committee. He was also a clinical professor, shaping the next generation of surgeons. In 2023, he made the decision to return to Texas and bring his expertise in robotic, general, and bariatric surgery to patients here.

Dr. Peery is a pioneer in robotic surgery—in 2004, he performed the first robotic procedure in South Dakota and has since completed thousands of robotic surgeries. He is considered a total practice robotic surgeon, meaning he leverages the most advanced technology for every patient to ensure the safest and most effective outcomes. He is also a consultant for Intuitive Surgical and other medical device companies, training and educating surgeons worldwide.
